Bob’s Big Boy holds a rich history that traces back to its origins as Bob’s Pantry in Glendale, California, in 1936. Initially known as “Bob’s Drive-Ins” and “Bob’s, Home of the Big Boy Hamburger,” the restaurant chain gained widespread popularity for its iconic Big Boy hamburger.
Over the years, the chain underwent several ownership changes, including being sold to Marriott Corporation in 1967 and later acquired by Elias Brothers. In 1987, Robert Liggett Jr. purchased the chain, leading to the renaming of the company as Big Boy Restaurants International, with headquarters in Warren, Michigan.
After subsequent changes in ownership and management, including bankruptcy proceedings, the chain was acquired by Michigan investors in 2018. Under new leadership, the name was changed to Big Boy Restaurant Group, with David Crawford at the helm.
