Millie’s Cookies originated in London, England, in 1985, when Mario Budwig founded the company and named it after his grandmother Mildred to honor the tradition of homemade baking. The first Millie’s Cookie was baked by the team and sold in London’s renowned Selfridges department store. Under the leadership of managing director Richard O’Sullivan, the company began expanding outside of London in 1987, establishing additional locations in major cities like Sheffield, Manchester, and Birmingham. Over the years, Millie’s Cookies experienced steady growth, with outlets opening in major railway stations, airports, and shopping centers nationwide. In 1997, the acquisition of competitor Cookie Jar and the re-branding of around thirty stores under the Millie’s Cookies name solidified the company’s position as a leading bakery chain in the UK market.
